RIS New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) Schedule

March 29, 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The annual State testing period begins in April and Westfield’s Intermediate Schools will be administering online assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Science. ELA and Math will take place in April/May and the Science assessment will take place in May/June.

There are two changes in the testing this year. First, since New Jersey is no longer part of the PARCC consortium and because the State standards have been revised, the assessments have been renamed “The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments” (NJSLA). Second, total testing times in ELA and Math have been reduced. Total testing time in ELA was reduced from 270 minutes to 180 minutes. The Math assessment has been reduced from a total testing time of 240 minutes to 180 minutes.

Students will take English Language Arts 6, 7, or 8 depending on current grade level. Students in math will be taking either Math 6, 7, 8, Algebra I, or Geometry depending on their current math placement. Students are encouraged to bring their own headphones with a standard jack, two pencils and recreational reading materials. Electronic devices are prohibited from entering the test site.
